The core lifter plays a crucial role in the process of breaking core samples. It works in conjunction with the core barrel, featuring a tapered shape that aligns with the tapered socket of the core lifter case. Once the inner tube is filled with the core sample and the drill string is lifted off the hole’s bottom, the core sample undergoes breaking through the gripping function of the core lifter.

Standard core lifters are crafted from high-quality alloy steel and undergo heat treatment to enhance strength, toughness, and wear life.

For added durability, diamond-coated core lifters incorporate a thin composite diamond coating (CDC) made of a hard metal alloy infused with synthetic micro diamonds. This diamond coating process significantly improves wear resistance, resulting in a longer lifespan compared to a standard core lifter.
